Give an Old Schoolbook a Whole New Life

In this two-day, hands-on, workshop, transform a vintage schoolbook into a richly layered altered art journal.

You’ll learn to:

* Create a custom cover and transform the book’s original pages into sturdy, mixed-media surfaces.

* Use existing layouts as springboards for your own compositions.

* Build layers of texture with acrylic paint, wallpaper, handmade stencils, playing cards, and unexpected bits and pieces.

* Explore dozens of prompts for journaling, collage, and creative experimentation.

No art or journaling experience is necessary. There are no “wrong” pages—just opportunities to cut, cover, reveal, tear, paint, layer, and rearrange.

Class Format: 2 days • 3 hours each day

Materials Provided: Vintage book, wallpaper, postage stamps, playing cards, acrylic paint, X-Acto knives, glue sticks, and masking tape.

Feel free to bring your own heavy-body acrylics, Posca paint pens, photographs, ephemera, papers, postcards, maps, letters, or other small treasures to incorporate into your book.
